The SomaVerse Ketamine Experiential Certification is a program for therapists, nurses, coaches and other healing professionals who want to understand ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) from the inside. You’ll complete medically supervised dosing sessions in group, partner and solo settings, with weekly integration discussions.
It’s an experiential training, not a credential. The certificate shows you completed the program. It is not a state license, board certification or prescribing credential, and continuing-education (CE) credits aren’t part of the current offering.
The program comes out of a working KAP practice. SomaVerse is a trained ketamine team with a medical provider, certified psychedelic therapists and a mental health coach, offering individual and group ketamine services, and the training draws on what we’ve learned running individual sessions, groups and retreats in Lawrence.
This training is for you if…
- You’re a therapist, counselor or social worker whose clients keep asking about ketamine, and you want to speak from experience.
- You’re a nurse, NP or other medical professional who wants to understand the psychological side of the sessions you support.
- You’re a chaplain, coach or bodyworker who already sits with people in tender, non-ordinary moments.
- You’ve done didactic KAP coursework and want the experiential piece in a legal, medically supervised setting.
- You’re carrying your own burnout or secondary trauma and would value healing alongside peers.
- You live in the Midwest and don’t want to fly to the coasts for this kind of training.
What’s included in the Ketamine Experiential Certification
You move through dosing sessions in three different settings, with medical oversight at every step and a weekly space to reflect with your cohort.
- Medical intake and assessment before your first dose, with medical follow-up
- Dosing sessions in group, partner and solo settings
- Medical check-ins after every dose
- Preparation meetings on safety, intention-setting and set and setting
- Weekly integration discussions on Zoom
- Certificate of completion
Why experiential learning matters for facilitators
Many KAP trainers emphasize personal experience with the medicine as part of learning to hold space for it. The reasoning is practical. Ketamine distorts time, can make speech feel far away, and can bring a vulnerability that’s hard to imagine from the outside. Knowing that firsthand changes how you pace a session, when you speak and how long you wait.
It also builds humility. You learn what it’s like to want reassurance and not be able to ask for it, or to surface something you didn’t plan to share. We’d add a caution: research hasn’t measured whether personal experience makes facilitators more effective, and it’s no substitute for clinical training and supervision.
Three settings: group, partner and solo
Group sessions let you experience the medicine in a circle, then notice how other people’s presence and sharing shape your own process. That’s directly useful if you ever lead or refer to group ketamine therapy.
Partner sessions are worked in a pair, a close look at the one-to-one relationship at the heart of KAP. Solo sessions give you room to go inward without managing anyone else’s experience, which is often where the most personal material shows up. The number and order of sessions may vary by cohort.
You’re a participant first
Professionals are screened exactly like any SomaVerse client. A medical provider reviews your health, history and medications and decides whether ketamine is appropriate. Some applicants will hear “not right now,” and that’s a safety decision, not a judgment of your skill.
During sessions, you aren’t there to perform competence. You’re there to have an experience. The cohort agrees on confidentiality from the start, which matters when your fellow participants may be colleagues in a small professional world.
What a certificate does and doesn’t mean
There’s no government-regulated “KAP certification” anywhere in the U.S., and ours doesn’t pretend to be one. Your scope of practice still comes from your own license and your licensing board, in Kansas usually the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board or the Board of Nursing.
To offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, a therapist needs a licensed prescriber handling medical screening, prescribing and monitoring. Prescribers need their own DEA registration and state authority. Ketamine for mental health is off-label, and compounded troches aren’t FDA-evaluated for psychiatric use, so you’ll want to discuss that honestly with future clients.
How it fits with other KAP training
University certificates and online courses teach theory, pharmacology, protocols and ethics well. What they usually can’t provide is a legal, medically supervised personal experience with the medicine. Many clinicians pair a didactic course with an experiential program like this one.
Because ketamine is a prescribable Schedule III medication, experiential training is possible here in Kansas, without traveling abroad or relying on research access. Read more about how KAP works.
Cost, schedule and how to apply
The Ketamine Experiential Certification is $999.99. Cohort dates aren’t posted publicly. Text “SomaVerse” to (785) 615-1995 or email SomaVerse@mbhealingcollective.org to hear about the next group and ask about payment options.
The program is based in Lawrence, roughly 35–45 minutes from Overland Park and Kansas City. Where each dosing session happens is set with our medical provider, and integration discussions happen weekly on Zoom.
