SomaVerse offers ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) in Lawrence, Kansas: sublingual ketamine troches paired with a ketamine-trained therapist, a wellness guide and medical oversight. It’s for adults in Douglas County whose depression, anxiety or trauma hasn’t fully shifted with talk therapy or medication alone.
Lawrence is our home base. SomaVerse grew out of Mind & Body Healing Collective, a Lawrence therapy practice, and our office on West 6th Street is where most clients meet their team for medical intakes, therapy and integration. Our weekend ketamine retreats happen a few blocks from Massachusetts Street, at a house on Kentucky Street.
If you’ve searched for ketamine in Lawrence, you’ve probably found IV infusion clinics and Spravato providers too. Both are legitimate options. Below, we explain plainly what SomaVerse does differently, and how to decide which approach fits you.
Lawrence folks often find us because…
- You live in Lawrence or nearby and don’t want to drive to Kansas City every week for ketamine care.
- You’ve worked with a good therapist in town for years, and you understand your patterns better than ever, yet they still run the show.
- You priced out an IV infusion series and the total stopped you cold.
- You want the experience itself to mean something, with a person you trust beside you, not a quiet chair and a drip line.
- You’re craving community: people in your own town who are doing this work too.
- You received ketamine somewhere else and need help making sense of what came up.
Where SomaVerse works in Lawrence
Most of your time with us will be at 2619 W 6th St, Suites A & C, in west-central Lawrence along the 6th Street (US-40) corridor. This is where you’ll meet your medical provider for your evaluation and follow-ups, sit down with your ketamine-trained therapist, and join integration groups.
Ketamine troche sessions happen in office, in a calm, private room set up with a reclining seat, blankets, eye shades and music. We offer them at all of our offices, in Lawrence, Overland Park and Topeka, and we’ll share the details when you schedule. Everyone starts in office. Once you’ve completed at least our main program with us and are medically approved, you may be approved to continue troche sessions at home with a sober support person present (more on that below).
Lawrence is also where our group space is, so group journeys and booster groups meet here. Our weekend retreats are held at 616 Kentucky St, a quiet older house a short walk from downtown. Small groups gather there for three days of journeying, rest and reflection, then walk out into the same streets they’ll be living their changes in.
Ketamine in Lawrence: how SomaVerse is different
Lawrence has several ways to get ketamine-based treatment. IV infusion clinics deliver ketamine through a vein in a medical setting, usually as a series of sessions and usually without built-in psychotherapy. Spravato providers offer esketamine nasal spray, the FDA-approved form for treatment-resistant depression, given in a certified clinic with at least two hours of observation. Spravato is often covered by insurance with prior authorization, and for some people that makes it the right choice. We’ll tell you if we think so.
SomaVerse takes a different path. We’re a therapy-led program, so the person who knows your story is part of the medicine sessions, not a referral afterward. We use compounded sublingual troches, which come on gradually and gently. We offer groups and weekend retreats that no one else in town runs, and we publish our prices.
One honest note: ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic, and using it for depression, anxiety or PTSD is off-label, whether it arrives by IV or troche. Troches are compounded and haven’t been evaluated by the FDA. Compare routes in detail on our ketamine vs. Spravato guide.
Rooted in the Lawrence community
SomaVerse wasn’t imported from a national chain. It was built by clinicians who have practiced in this town for years: a trained ketamine team with a medical provider, certified psychedelic therapists and a mental health coach, offering individual and group ketamine services. The program’s founder and director is Anissa Pfannenstiel, LSCSW, KAP, PAP, a Somatic Psychedelic Certified Therapist with more than 20 years of practice, trained in EMDR, Brainspotting and hypnotherapy. Angel Patterson-Tetuan, PMHNP-BC, our Psychiatry & Ketamine Medical Director, leads the medical side, and Joseph (Valentine) Dee, EMT, who has assisted in more than 1,000 ketamine sessions, provides medical support.
Our Mental Health & Psychedelic Guide and journey musician, Ian Cook, founded the Lawrence Psychedelic Society and serves on the NAMI Douglas County steering committee. Many Lawrence clients already know someone who has sat in an integration circle with him. That kind of local trust matters when you’re deciding who to be vulnerable with.
Weekend retreats on Kentucky Street
Into the SomaVerse, our weekend ketamine retreat, is held at the Kentucky Street house for groups of 6 to 10 people. It costs $999 per participant and includes your ketamine prescription, three days of group journeying, integration group work, expressive arts, meals, preparation and two post-integration sessions. The medical evaluation beforehand is billed separately, with insurance filed where it applies.
Medical providers, therapists and a ketamine guide hold the space together across the weekend. Read the full picture on our ketamine retreat page.
Already completed a SomaVerse program? Our SomaVerse Booster Group ($150 per person, 6–10 people) meets in Lawrence for a group journey to revisit and deepen the work. Text “SomaVerse” for upcoming dates, or read more about group ketamine therapy.
KU students and young adults: what to know
We see adults 18 and older, and that includes University of Kansas students. Being in college doesn’t rule you out, but we screen carefully. Our medical team reviews your health, medications, substance use and family history of psychosis or bipolar disorder before anyone talks about dosing.
If you already see someone at KU’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) or Watkins Health Services, we’re glad to coordinate with them, with your written permission. Ketamine works best as one part of a support system, not a replacement for it.
Practically, timing and setting matter. We’ll help you plan sessions away from finals and big deadlines. Everyone starts in office, and even later, a busy shared apartment or residence hall usually isn’t a good setting for an at-home session, so in-office sessions or a group may keep fitting better while you’re living near campus.
What ketamine therapy costs in Lawrence
Most people start with the Individual Ketamine Healing Package: $480 for 6 sessions, including your ketamine prescription, a Journey Box, medical monitoring, a preparation session and sessions at any of our offices. A single troche dose is $90, and 8-dose ($560) and 12-dose ($780) packages are available as you continue. Some first-time clients choose Solo Ketamine ($1,505), which bundles the medical assessment and follow-up, therapy assessment, guide preparation, 8 dosing sessions, 3 guide sessions and 3 integration groups.
Your medical evaluation, ketamine therapy or guide-assisted sessions and integration are billed separately, and eligible medical visits and therapy with a licensed therapist may be billed to insurance, with your usual copays and deductibles. The ketamine itself, guide sessions, groups and retreats are self-pay. Payment plans are available on bundles, and HSA cards are accepted. For comparison, IV infusions often cost $350–$700 or more per session.
Local support beyond SomaVerse
SomaVerse is not an emergency service. If you’re in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or go to the emergency department at LMH Health. Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center is Douglas County’s community mental health center and offers crisis support and ongoing care. With your permission, we’re glad to coordinate with Bert Nash, LMH Health or anyone else who supports you.
